Dear Diary

Welcome to The Summer of '04

WoooHOOO!

Every year, the moment I step out of the classroom right after the school year's final exam, I start jumping uncontrollably. That sudden adrenaline rush usually dies down by the time everyone's done with the test. This year, the last test was Filipino. It wasn't too bad...so anyway, I went upstairs, cleaned up my locker, and said the usual painful goodbyes to it (the locker) and my chair, then walked out of that 3rd Year corridor forever...well, not forever, but as a junior...

Although I did respect most of my usual last-day-of-school practices this year, I did break one: the last-day-of-school mall tour. Why? I am simply lazy. I'm tired for crying out loud. Junior year is the best and worst year of your young life (alliteration), and the 3rd and final trimestral exam week is probably the hellest week of them all! Why should I go to the mall when going to the mall right now isn't relaxing because, somehow, I'm just going there to respect tradition? I'm done with doing things just because I have to, at least for the next two months. Besides, the malls haven't changed...So what do I do? Go to Patty's house.

I am an honorary Rodriguez sister. Aside from school, the Rodregez residence is my second home. The Rodregez household is tremendous fun! Plus, I haven't finished watching To Kill A Mockingbird. I'm not watching it because it's an adaptation of a great novel, but because the movie itself is a classic. Being a film buff, I need to watch it. Now, what does Patty's house have to do with Gregory Peck? Well, her father, who proudly(?) resembles one-time SNL star Chevy Chase, has a huge DVD collection. With my family and her family being parallel and all, my father also has this thing about DVD's and Next Base players. (Patty and I have the exact same Next Base DVD player. Then we found out later on that so does Olivia and our school. Also, we have discovered that nearly all fathers in our school have a DVD obsession. Thank you Makati Cinema Square! Ooops! Raid! Aaah!)

Anyway, I have digressed. Where was I? Oh yes, TKM. So after finishing Mockingbird and nearly being moved to tears (The book makes me teary-eyed, too.), I went on watching more movies, in this order: Roman Holiday (yes, it was turning into a Gregory Peck marathon), Mona Lisa Smile (Julia Roberts's smile, though, is wide!), Julius Caesar (yep, it's now turning into an art and literature marathon), One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and finally, School of Rock. I only watched Mona Lisa Smile and School of Rock in full, which is odd because although one is a drama and one is a comedy, both movies are about radical, subversive teachers taking new jobs in old, conservative institutions. Also, Marlon Brando (Mark Antony) and Phillip Alford (Jem Finch) have one of the most brooding presences in the silver screen. (Since we've only met, don't get me wrong. I'm not the typical boy-crazy teenage girl. I've never even had a crush.)

Yesterday was also St. Patrick's Day! Now, I'm not of Irish descent, and my school isn't Irish, but I have always had this little leprechaun spirit in me. I seem to be so attached to the Celtic culture (the same with the Franco and Italian). I don't know why. Maybe because if you add an "H" to my middle name (Iris), it becomes "Irish." LOL! Seriously, people used to misspell it that way.

Anyway, I have a new dilemma. Should I go attend the Senior's Night as an usherette on Saturday or attend my youngest sister's Graduation? Hmmm...maybe I should go my sister's Graduation.

Today, I'm finally going to clear out my jungle of a study table and get a haircut.

So much for my first entry.

Signed,
Ana
